Saliva Pregnancy Test FAQs
This page answers common questions about saliva pregnancy tests, including how they work, when to test, and how accurate they are. If you’re looking for detailed product information, you can learn more about the SaliStick saliva pregnancy test. For step-by-step guidance on how to use the test correctly, please refer to the SaliStick instructions.
Before Testing
- Avoid eating or drinking 30 minutes before testing.
- It is advised not to perform multiple saliva tests consecutively without allowing a sufficient interval between each test.
Will it be Accurate?
Yes, the test has been extensively tested against numerous confirmed positive and negative samples and when used as instructed and performed on the first day following your missed period the test has a sensitivity of 95.16%.
| Time | Sensitivity | Specificity |
|---|---|---|
| One day after missed period | 95.16% | 97.30% |
| Two days after missed period | 97.44% | 97.30% |
Optimal Saliva Accumulation Prior to Collection
- To ensure proper test operation, it is necessary to collect an adequate volume of saliva in the mouth.
- Hold saliva in your mouth for a duration of 30 seconds.
- Swallowing saliva is a natural and instinctive reflex, but it is important to avoid swallowing the collected fluid during the test.
- Mentally focusing on a favorite food or drink can assist in increasing saliva production.
- Try to accumulate as much saliva as possible before continuing with the test.
Saliva Collection
- Saliva is collected using a collection handle designed like a lollipop, featuring a collection foam at its end.
- It is important to note that the collection handle should not be used for swabbing.
- Avoid scrubbing it against your inner cheek, gums, tongue, or any other area.
- Gently absorb the accumulated saliva onto the collection foam. It is recommended to roll the foam during this process, as it can enhance saliva absorption.
- Throughout the entire procedure, refrain from biting, chewing, sucking, or any action that may compress or squeeze the collection foam
- Follow these instructions to collect saliva for a duration of 90 seconds, and then proceed to check the indicator (next step).
Indicator Color Change Detection
- Once the collection step is finished, remove the collection handle from your mouth.
- Hold the handle in a vertical position, with the collection foam facing upwards, for a duration of 10 seconds.
- Observe if there is a color change in the indicator. If the indicator does not turn blue, it is necessary to repeat the collection step for an additional minute using the same handle.
- In cases where the mouth is dry or the saliva accumulation was inadequate, it may be necessary to repeat the collection process. Please note that this does not indicate incorrect operation.
- Continue repeating the collection process until the indicator turns blue. It is important not to proceed to the next step if the indicator did not turn blue.
Proper Connection of the Collection Handle and Analytical Unit
- Once the indicator has turned blue, take the analytical unit and hold it horizontally, ensuring no angle is applied.
- Insert the collection handle into the analytical unit and twist-turn it until it is fully inserted. It is crucial to maintain a horizontal orientation throughout this entire process
- Please ensure a continuous and uninterrupted connection of the collection handle without any pauses or breaks to ensure optimal test performance.
- Place the test, now fully assembled, on a horizontal surface with the results window facing upwards.
- Within 30 to 60 seconds, a liquid should flow into the results window, indicating the test progress.
Formation of Test Results
- After a few minutes from the start of the liquid flow, an expected C-line will appear on the test strip.
- The intensity of the C-line will gradually intensify and should be visible within a timeframe of up to 5 minutes.
- If the saliva sample contains detectable levels of the hCG hormone, a T-line will also appear. The intensity of the T-line depends on the hormone levels present in the saliva.
- If the saliva sample contains detectable levels of the hCG hormone, a T-line will also appear. The intensity of the T-line depends on the hormone levels present in the saliva.
- You can interpret the results between 5 to 15 minutes after connecting the two units together. However, for optimal sensitivity, it is recommended to read the results precisely at the -15minute mark.
Interpretation of Test Results
- C-line only: This indicates a negative result, meaning "Not Pregnant."
- T-line only: This indicates an invalid result.
- Both C-line and T-line: This indicates a positive result, meaning "Pregnant."
- No lines: This indicates an invalid result.
- In the event of an invalid result, we recommend performing another test and carefully following the step-by-step instructions provided in the instructional video.
